Usability of Voting project

22nd June 2009

User Vision were commissioned by The Electoral Commission to undertake usability testing of ballot papers and existing election materials, to contribute to the Commission’s assessment of the design of voting materials and development of good practice guidelines. User Vision was assisted by Caroline Jarrett of EffortmarkLink opens in a new window , a specialist in the usability of forms.

Clare Barnett, Usability Consultant at User Vision

User Experience Consultant Clare Barnett produced a report on their findings to assist with design guidance for voting materials. “Having studied psychology and politics at University, this was an especially apt and captivating project for me to be involved in. Everyone I tested with was keen to provide as much input as they could to the project. We watched participants taking part in a false election, and observed how particular elements of voting materials made the task of voting more easy or difficult.”

A copy of the usability test report is available to download.
