Overview
As more people manage their banking, pensions and insurance online, the importance of providing a positive experience on financial services sites has never been greater. This course is for companies and organisations who want to improve the usability of their financial service web site and incorporate user centred design into their product development life-cycle. Attendees will:
- Understand the usability principles and best practice that apply to financial sites, including online application and transactional areas.
- Learn how to design sites that meet the needs of the business and customers.
- Apply techniques that will lead to more user-centred processes and pages.
- Take part in user centered design workshops for financial services application.
What I will learn?
The day will be a balance between learning usability principles and applying them through a series of interactive workshop. Attendees will learn how to:
- Apply a user centered design process that supports the development and business requirements.
- Gather and incorporate information about customer needs into projects in an engaging and usable way.
- Specify usability metrics to measure the efficiency of the product and ensure that the site is in-line with the customer's needs.
- Apply the principles of usable screen layout and interaction design using examples from a range of financial websites.
- Perform card sorting for information architecture analysis and apply the results to site navigation.
- Integrate key user centered design methods into your project to ensure that the project remains customer and business focused.
- Learn about different methods to test your website for usability.

About the trainers
Donna Douglas and Clare Barnett are both Usability and Accessibility Consultants at User Vision, helping clients to gain a competitive advantage through an improved user experience.
Clare Barnett
Since graduating from Glasgow University in psychology and politics, Clare spent 10 years in the financial industry within communications, and web design. She was the in-house user experience consultant, conducting testing, writing articles, and raising the profile of usability within the financial services.

Chris Rourke
Chris is Managing Director of User Vision. Chris has over 19 years commercial experience in usability, accessibility, human factors consultancy and training. Chris has worked with a wide range of financial sector clients as well as many commercial clients in the UK and abroad.
