Event Overview
As the understanding of the mobile web increases, mobile usability will play a massive role in ensuring the success of the platform.
Mark Westwater, Senior Usability Consultant at User Vision, will talk through the pitfalls of the mobile web and introduce design guidelines that can be applied to create a usable mobile site. He will show examples of good and bad designs and show the differences between the 'desktop' and 'mobile' web. Finally, Mark will address the apps vs. mobile sites debate.
The second speaker, Gavin Dutch, will pick up on the mobile sites vs. apps debate exploring the merits of each choice, the current market place and taking a look into the compromise - the hybrid app. He will then delve deeper into user experience considerations applicable to app design and provide an overview of the Edinburgh Festivals Guide iPhone app to illustrate some of the choices and how they were made. Finally, Gavin will conclude with a look into the future of apps.
Cost: FREE to UPA members and £10 for non-members (£5 for student non-members)
