Web Usability and User Experience - how to get it right and how to measure it?

Intendance ResearchLink opens in a new window has invited Chris Rourke, Managing Director of User Vision, to present a seminar and optional interactive workshop aimed at those responsible for managing and developing websites as part of gaining, retaining and servicing customers.

What will I learn?

The seminar will show you the key principles of web usability to improve the user experience on B2B and B2C websites using examples and case studies from a variety of industries. Other areas covered include:

  • How to provide a positive first impression through the home page
  • Tips on how to create site navigation structures
  • 'Before' and 'after' case studies of sites that have had significant usability improvements and the business benefits that resulted
  • How to research and understand your users' needs
  • Overview of the opportunities from the recent innovations in social media and rich internet applications

The optional practical workshop will look at methods that can be applied to improve the interface design and interactions, and will put into practice what you have learned in the seminar. The hands-on exercises will include the following methods:

  • Usability eye tracking
  • Card sorting architecture - to improve navigation
  • Site evaluation - reviewing websites to identify and resolve usability issues

About the Workshop Leader

Chris RourkeChris Rourke, founder and managing director of User Vision, has over 15 years consultancy and training experience in usability and human factors applied primarily to websites, software, mobile and consumer products. Qualified in both Engineering Psychology and Ergonomics, Chris is President of the Scottish Chapter of the Usability Professionals' Association and is a member of various professional organisations, including the British Human-Computer Interaction Group (BHCIG).

What are the costs?

The cost for the seminar and workshop is only £95 (£65 for members of Intendance Research). Seminar only is £55 (£35 for members of Intendance Research). A continental brunch will be provided.
